Some things we've learned since our feathered friends arrived....

They like to stick together.

They're not the smartest creatures.  So many times I've seen them on the outside of the
 run looking in, trying to figure out how to get to their food, or in this case, the grapes.

They are determined.  Even fencing them out of an area doesn't stop them from going somewhere.

They love it when I turn the compost.  Usually a cockroach or two will scurry out and the girls have learned to stand nearby so they can catch themselves a tasty treat.  Yay for cockroach control! and truly my favorite thing is getting to know their personalities.  They are funny, and I laugh every time they twist their head to get a good look with one eye like they're asking, "what?"

From around the garden this weekend...

The beans were having a hard time.  Keeping the chickens out and getting rid of the
ants we found while fencing the planter seems to have helped.

Beans looking much better.  The lower right shows how the leaves were getting beat up.

We've fenced a few sections of the main planter.  The chickens really liked to pick at the
 melon plants, and we were needing something for the cucumbers to climb on.

Pomegranates.

We cut the tomato vines back.  Last year it seemed to help them survive
 the heat, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Peppers.

Cantaloupe. 

Squash.

Eggplant.

Cherry tomato.
