New stuff is popping out of the soil. We've been keeping them under shade so that the summer sun doesn't fry them to a crisp. They look like they're doing alright.
We got our second egg today. And looking at our girls, it would seem our skittish Big Tail is getting close. Her comb is getting larger and deeper in color. And she is doing the funky squat thingy that Hermoine did a few days before the first egg. Which is great because it was really hard to pick her up and now if I walk towards her fast enough she squats instead of running, flapping or jumping away. So much easier to grab her.

We did invite some new birds to come play with us. We had talked about adding a few new chickens, then with the loss of Cotton we thought 3 chickens might not produce enough eggs for the 5 of us. So we decided to get some new birds. But this time we'd try it from a week old. We went to the feed store and picked out four chicks. 2 Barred Rock, an Ameraucana, and a Rhode Island Red.
The kids are thrilled. It's been hard to keep them from grabbing them every two seconds. Though really, who am I trying to kid? It's hard for me not to grab them every few minutes, too.
